Prior owners had food out in 5-10 minutes. The restaurant was slow and this is Chinese food. Boooo!!Waited 30+ minutes for food after we ordered. Told it was now $1.50 a cup and no longer free. Service was terrible! Started off requesting hot tea. Used to LOVE this place with the prior owners. Our waitress was pleasant, courteous and checked on us numerous times. We stuffed ourselves and still took home three boxes crammed full. The Orange Chicken was good but just a tad spicy for what I'm used to, Cashew and Sweet & Sour Chickens were also good. Again we didn't question it because we're unfamiliar with what is normal in AZ so we may have been screwed on that. We also didn't get any egg rolls which always come with the meal in MI. Not sure why and we didn't question it because we weren't in a hurry. I thought we waited a fairly long time for our order simply because there was hardly anyone in the place, and noticed that people who were seated after us actually received their order before us. ![]() We ordered Orange Chicken, Cashew Chicken and Sweet & Sour Chicken. Seemed weird that it wasn't because that's pretty much common in MI. I was a little disappointed that Almond Chicken was not on the menu. We were seated immediately although we were a little early for dinner and the place was hardly busy. It's a charming little restaurant and appeared very clean. ![]() I was a little put off seeing that it was located in a strip mall, but my opinion quickly changed once we entered the building. We had a craving for Almond Chicken so my aunt suggested Abacus for dinner. ![]() My mother and I are from MI and we were visiting my aunt. ![]() ![]() ![]() Everyone always argues about what’s “Authentic”. It’s almost a useless word that gets overused a lot in relation to Mexican food. There’s really no such thing as one kind of authentic when describing an entire country’s food, especially Mexico. The other thing that happened that is similar, is that they were influenced by the American, or Norte Americanos, as they would call us, (Mexicans considered themselves “Americans” too)-they were influenced by the American foods, which is how lettuce, tomato, and cheddar cheese found its way into the taco along with ground beef. Plus, they were no longer dirt poor, and could afford better meat. ![]() First, they had to use what was available-ground beef instead of offals. Tacos evolved naturally when Mexicans immigrated to the U.S. (By the way, Taco Bell is crap.) The first taco meat was likely offal meat – internal organs and entrails, which aren’t that bad when a chef that knows what they’re doing prepares them. To sum it up, tacos were most likely invented by Mexican silver miners in the 18th century. Mexican Americans in the Southwest reinvented it, and businessman Glen Bell mass-marketed it to Anglo palates via the crunchy Taco Bell shell. It is so stupid, stating that the very first tacos had “salsa, onions, guacamole, and lime.” I don’t think so. Whatever you do, don’t bother with the one from Ortega. Petersburg.Īs I sat down to write this, the first thoughts that popped into my head were 1) Everybody loves tacos, 2) There sure are a lot of different types of tacos these days, and 3) what is the actual origin of the taco-is it really Mexican, and how close to the original are they to what we eat today? So, I Googled, “What is the origin of the taco?” There’s a bunch of stuff out there, but I liked The Smithsonian’s article the best, as it was the most interesting, and the most credible, in my opinion. For a couple of years, Lori and I went out about 4-5 nights a week, but now we have a better balance of 50/50 between cooking at home, and going out to the amazing restaurants we are so lucky to have in our beloved St. This was when I learned about gourmet food and fine wine. An old girlfriend from decades ago had a brother-in-law that was a CEO of a trucking company, and he used to entertain in Manhattan quite a bit. After getting my first apartment, I used to cook 5-nights a week, and go out two nights. In High School, I took three different cooking classes and got an A in each. By the time my mom returned, I was stirring the pot on the stove, and proclaimed "Look Mom! I'm cooking!" When my mom said that she was just running to the neighbor's and would be right back, I climbed onto the kitchen counter and found Lipton Instant French Onion Soup Mix. Its striking nature makes red a good color to be used as an accent in a room, be it a living room, work room, dining room or family room. Why red? In psychology of color, red is categorized as warm color. If you want to maintain the principle that white is simplicity and minimalism, but want to add new elements that don’t look dominant, use accents with striking colors, such as red. The design example below uses contrasting dark gray and orange tones with a background of soft yellow tints to form a visually striking pattern. However, the addition of contrast can prevent this, even if it is merely an aesthetic choice. The understanding of many people about minimalist home design is a look that seems familiar and considered stale. It is recommended to choose cool inner color paint if you build a house in a hot area, and vice versa, choose warm inner color paint if you build a house / villa in a cold weather place. The choice of color tone here will have more effect when applied for interior, compared to the exterior of the house, because you will stay longer in it and feel the immediate impact. Similarly, if you choose a minimalist, warmer house color paint (shades of red, brown, orange, yellow, or peach), choose a white color variant that has a little warmth (warm white). If you paint a wall with cool colors (green, blue, purple, or gray), mix it with a white variant that also impresses cooler (cool white). Look at the house below, which uses a monochromatic color scheme with a brown base color. Monochromatic color schemes from shades, tones and tints will produce a spectrum with a wide selection of minimalist home paint color combinations for every part of your home design. However, a monochromatic color scheme can overcome this dilemma. ![]() Therefore, entering a variety of bold colors can create chaos in the design of your home. That is, monochromatic color schemes can accentuate accents, rather than compete to attract attention.īright colors are very attractive and striking. However, the lack of contrast and accent in most minimalist house color paints will encourage designers to choose a more experimental and bold color blend.Īssociated with other minimalist design elements, the monochromatic scheme takes over the visual domination of the design to make it more attractive and easy to understand. This means that you will see more homes using a variety of similar paint colors. Maintaining last year’s minimalist architectural style, the monochromatic color palette scheme will remained the trend of minimalist house paint colors this year. Simple, isn’t it?įor instance you can try a simple minimalist home design that uses a blend of white and gray and is accentuated by the accents of the grille and the black color fence. Some of the things you can choose from are beige, gray, beige, and so on. If it is difficult to choose minimalist house color paint, combine white with neutral colors that will make it easier for you to choose other minimalist home paint color combinations. You will be amazed to see so many white variants on the market. Warm minimalism have more of a neutral color palette with ivory, tan, and creams - and utilizes natural textures, like wood and woven rugs to bring create an inviting atmosphere.Soft Neutral Color for Your Minimalist House ![]() To give an example, typical minimalism uses a mix of metals, stainless steel, and chrome to bring depth (see below) which can often result in a cool undertone and sleek/sterile atmosphere. Most minimalism influenced interiors emphasize structure and functionality, with open-space concepts and color pallets of black and white, but warm minimalism interiors lean more towards warmth and texture, utilizing natural light, organic materials, and a neutral color to set the scene. When done right, it achieves a peaceful and serene atmosphere that is still warm and inviting. This design style relates to modern in it’s clean aesthetic, simple silhouettes and lack of clutter, but adds natural textures to bring warmth and depth to an other-wise cold and sterile space. My interpretation of warm minimalism is a design style with an clean and minimalistic aesthetic that incorporate natural textures to add warmth and interest. ![]() Today, we’re diving into the "Warm Minimalist” design style, an organic take on the classic minimalist style that is a favorite amongst new and old designers. Additionally, he highlighted the invaluable role of students in advancing this pioneering research. This interdisciplinary undertaking involves the harmonious collaboration of biologists and engineers, underscoring the importance of diverse expertise in expanding the horizons of plant space biology. Kiss unveiled his current project-a daring endeavor to cultivate plants on the moon’s surface. In a finale to the cosmic conversation, Dr. The relentless pursuit of spectacular launches and celestial adventures tends to overshadow the quiet yet profound contributions of plants to our cosmic journey. Kiss lamented the underappreciation of plant biology in space exploration’s grand narrative, often eclipsed by the glamour of rocketry and human missions. His vision encompassed not only sustaining humans but also enhancing the nutritional benefits of space-grown plants for animals, broadening the horizon of interstellar agriculture. Kiss remained optimistic about the prospect. While not without its challenges, including the necessity of centrifuges to create artificial gravity, Dr. The prospect of cultivating crops within orbital structures, such as the O’Neill island, emerged as a captivating proposition. As we ponder the comparative impacts of Earth, lunar, and Martian gravity on plants, we are compelled to consider how plants will adapt in these alien terrains. Yet, the uncharted territory of fractional or reduced gravity begged exploration. Kiss unveiled the complexities of plant development in microgravity, a realm where we possess some knowledge. The gravitational ballet of space became the subject of another enthralling inquiry. The importance of supplementing regolith with vital nutrients and antioxidants became apparent-a key to ensuring the resilience and productivity of space-faring crops. Kiss elucidated the ongoing research endeavor to understand how plants might thrive in such a rugged environment. Lunar and Martian regolith, those desolate landscapes of dust and rocks, posed yet another intriguing challenge. Here, science meets artistry as we imagine a garden of otherworldly crops nourishing our cosmic odyssey. Kiss delved into the ingenious realm of genetic engineering, envisioning bespoke crop plants meticulously crafted to flourish in the inhospitable atmospheric pressures of the Red Planet. The message was clear: water is the common currency of plant life, and in the parched realms of space, every drop is precious. Kiss astutely outlined the advantages of the moon’s south pole as a potential water source, revealing the tantalizing prospect of in-situ water utilization on both the lunar surface and Mars. The conversation then navigated toward an intriguing question: Can plants thrive on Mars without protective enclosures? Dr. ![]() ![]() These space sanctuaries are more than just laboratories they are the lifeblood of future spacefaring endeavors. Kiss underscored the indispensability of enclosed habitats akin to space greenhouses, highlighting their pivotal role in shielding delicate plants from the harsh rigors of radiation and the inhospitable Martian climate. Beyond providing sustenance, these photosynthetic organisms may one day become our steadfast companions, furnishing us with food and a life-sustaining oxygen supply.Ĭrucially, Dr. This burgeoning field seeks to fathom the mysteries of how plants grow and thrive in the stark vacuum of space-a conundrum central to the viability of long-range space missions, including Mars expeditions and lunar colonies. Kiss initiated the dialogue by unravelling the intricate concept of plant space biology. Listen to the Dean of UNCG’s College of Arts and Sciences, Dr. John Kiss, a luminary in gravitational and space plant biology, recently took center stage on The Space Show podcast to illuminate the captivating realm of plant space biology and its profound implications for the future of space exploration.
